Before turning the words into music.

• Check the spelling of every name and add a simple pronunciation hint.
• Read the lyrics from the giver’s point of view. A parent, friend and partner should sound different.
• Remove invented milestones, dates or events. A fluent lyric can still get your story wrong.
• Keep at least one detail the recipient will recognize. If it could be about anyone, return to the memory.
• Finish your edits before recording. Changing sung words requires another recording.

• Listen to the actual song and check the name, vocals and playback.
• Choose a photo you have permission to share and write a short personal dedication.
